Understand your bushfire risk.

Living in Closeburn and Cedar Creek means living close to nature, open bushland, fresh air, and a strong community spirit. But that same beauty brings a serious challenge during bushfire season. With only one main road connecting much of Cedar Creek to Closeburn and Mount Samson Road, access can change in a moment if fire or smoke moves in.

In a bushfire, that single road can quickly become blocked by fallen trees, fire, or even heavy smoke. That’s why preparation isn’t just about protecting your home, it’s about protecting your family’s way out.

🔥 Why early decisions matter

Queensland Fire Department reminds us that bushfires can start quickly and spread fast. You may only have minutes to act. When there’s one way in and out, hesitation can be dangerous.

If the Fire Danger Rating is “Extreme” or “Catastrophic”, the safest plan is to leave early, well before a fire is close. Don’t wait for a text or a knock on the door. If you’re unsure, treat every warning seriously. Leaving early also helps us, it means crews can focus on protecting lives and property.

🔥 Working together to stay safe

Everyone in Closeburn and Cedar Creek has a role to play. A few simple actions make a big difference:

Keep driveways and access gates clear so fire trucks can get in.
Ensure your tank has a 50 mm camlock fitting so we can refill quickly if needed.
Have a grab-and-go kit ready with essentials and pet supplies.
Talk to your neighbours about your plans — in our valley, teamwork saves time.
Follow QFES updates on fire.qld.gov.au and the Bushfire Danger Rating app.

🔥 How you can help us help you

For our brigade, access is everything. When roads are clear and water is available, we can move faster and protect more homes. Please don’t block the road with vehicles when the smoke is thick, even a small delay can slow emergency response.

If you’re staying to defend, ensure you have the right equipment, protective clothing, and an escape plan in place in case conditions change. And remember, if you ever feel unsafe, it’s always okay to leave.

🌧️ A message from your local brigade

Closeburn and Cedar Creek are special places; we all live here because we love the peace, the trees, and the community. However, with only one road in and one road out, we need to look out for each other and act promptly.

This bushfire season, make your plan, talk with your family, and stay informed. Together, we can reduce risk and protect what makes our valley home.
