Who are we?

Closeburn Rural Fire Brigade is a volunteer brigade within the Queensland Fire Department (QFD).

The Rural Fire Service Queensland (RFSQ) is an integral part of the Queensland Fire Department, with a history of over 60 years. The Closeburn Brigade can trace its history back to 21st of July 1958.

The RFSQ provides fire services to 93% of Queensland’s vast state. The RFSQ comprises approximately 28,000 volunteers in 1,400 rural fire brigades and 2,400 fire warden districts.

RFSQ volunteer provides services in their local area, including:

  • Firefighting (bush) landscape fires, all Rural Fire appliances are 4WD.

  • Emergency response in support of Fire and Rescue (direct support to enable increased Fire and Rescue capability, such as water supply, asset protection or any other task as required).

  • Supporting casualty evacuations,

  • Hazard prevention and mitigation advice,

  • Issuing permits and fire warden activities,

  • Surge capability (strike teams),

  • Specialist local knowledge of rural areas,

  • Community education and engagement and,

  • Disaster management response and recovery. RFSQ maintains advanced chainsaw skills, well above the standard qualifications found elsewhere.

Who are our members?

There are no paid positions at the Closeburn Brigade; everyone volunteers.

Our members come from all walks of life, and their day-to-day jobs are as varied as their ages, but the one thing they all have in common is a desire to serve and protect their local community.

Our region

Closeburn Rural Fire Brigade’s operational area starts at McDowalls Rd (Yugar) and ends at Hills Rd (Mt Samson).

This encompasses Cedar Creek Road and surrounding Parks and forests up to Harland Rd (Mt Glorious).
